This self-report measure is used to screen for orthorexic eating attitudes characterized by an excessive preoccupation with “healthy” or “pure” food choices. The Rome Orthorexia Nervosa Questionnaire (ORTO-15) is intended to support clinical formulation by identifying the degree to which food-related beliefs and behaviors may be rigid, distressing, or functionally impairing.
The instrument includes 15 items and typically takes about 3 minutes to complete. It is commonly used in clinical and research settings as a brief screening tool and does not, by itself, establish a diagnosis. When elevation is observed, results should be interpreted in the context of clinical interview, eating-disorder assessment, and relevant medical and psychosocial factors. The Rome Orthorexia Nervosa Questionnaire (ORTO-15) is sometimes cited in relation to Steven Bratman.
