This measure is designed to characterize perceived stages of peer relationships within a classroom or other student group. The Interpersonal Relationship Stages Assessment uses structured self-report ratings to describe the relative closeness and stability of friendships and interaction patterns. It was developed by John Bowlby and Mary D. Salter Ainsworth.
The instrument consists of 26 items and typically requires about 5 minutes to complete. Results are intended to support a descriptive snapshot of interpersonal relationship development, which may help identify students who appear less connected, as well as those who function as social bridges within the group. The Interpersonal Relationship Stages Assessment is generally used to inform educational or school-based psychological consultation and to guide targeted supports in peer-group functioning.
