This measure is designed to describe individual preferences in information processing and task approach. The Style of Learning and Thinking (SOLAT) provides a brief self-report snapshot of how a respondent characteristically learns and thinks across different situations.
It consists of 40 items and typically takes about 8 minutes to complete. Items ask respondents to endorse statements that reflect contrasting cognitive tendencies (e.g., analytic and structured versus intuitive and holistic), yielding profile-style results intended to support discussion of learning and problem-solving preferences. The Style of Learning and Thinking (SOLAT) is attributed to Anthony F. Gregorc.
Results are best interpreted as descriptive indicators rather than direct measures of neurobiological hemispheric functioning, and should be integrated with collateral information and the referral question when used in educational or clinical contexts.
