This brief self-report measure evaluates the frequency and salience of phone-related inattentiveness during in-person interactions. The Fabbing Scale is intended to capture a behavioral tendency to divert attention to a smartphone in ways that may interfere with conversational engagement and nonverbal responsiveness.
The instrument consists of 10 items and typically requires about 2 minutes to complete. Respondents rate how often they engage in smartphone checking or related behaviors while communicating with others. The resulting scores may be used to support clinical or research formulations related to interpersonal functioning, attention in social contexts, and technology-associated habits, with interpretation considered alongside other relevant assessment data.
The Fabbing Scale was developed by Karadag, E., and is commonly used as a screening-level indicator of phubbing-like behaviors rather than a standalone diagnostic tool.
