This brief self-report measure assesses individual differences in curiosity and engagement with novel experiences. The Curiosity and Exploration Inventory-II (CEI-II) is commonly used in research and clinical-adjacent settings to characterize openness to exploration and interest in new information.
Developed by T. B. Kashdan and P. J. Silvia, it consists of 10 items and typically requires about 2 minutes to complete. Items ask respondents to rate how well statements reflect their typical thoughts and behaviors related to seeking out and embracing new experiences.
Scores from the Curiosity and Exploration Inventory-II (CEI-II) can support case formulation, psychoeducational feedback, and outcome monitoring when curiosity or exploratory behavior is relevant, and should be interpreted in the context of other clinical information and the respondent’s circumstances.
