Subjective Loneliness Scale Test - Symptoms and Signs
This self-report measure is used to assess perceived loneliness and subjective social disconnection. The Subjective Loneliness Scale provides a brief snapshot of how an individual experiences the availability and adequacy of interpersonal closeness (Peplau, Ferguson, & Russell).
The instrument consists of 21 items and is typically completed in about 3 minutes. Responses are intended to support clinical case formulation and research descriptions of perceived social isolation; results should be interpreted in the context of other assessment data and the individual’s cultural and situational background.
The Subjective Loneliness Scale is not a diagnostic tool and does not, by itself, establish the presence of a mental disorder. Elevated scores may indicate the need for further assessment of social support, mood, and related psychosocial stressors.
