New Tolerance of Uncertainty Questionnaire Test - Symptoms and Signs
This self-report measure assesses individual differences in responses to ambiguous, unpredictable, or insufficiently defined situations. The New Tolerance of Uncertainty Questionnaire is used to characterize how a person typically appraises and manages uncertainty, including tendencies toward discomfort, avoidance, or efforts to seek certainty.
The instrument includes 33 items and typically takes about 6 minutes to complete. It is commonly used in clinical and research contexts to support case formulation and to inform interventions where intolerance of uncertainty may contribute to worry, anxiety, or maladaptive decision-making. Original development has been attributed to Michel Dugas and Robert Ladouceur.
Scores from the New Tolerance of Uncertainty Questionnaire are interpreted as indicators of relative tolerance versus intolerance of uncertainty and should be considered alongside clinical interview findings and other relevant measures, rather than as a standalone diagnostic tool.
