Coach–Athlete Scale Test - Symptoms and Signs
This brief self-report measure is used to characterize athletes’ perceptions of their relationship with a coach. The Coach-Athlete Scale is intended to support a rapid, structured appraisal of interpersonal and working aspects of the coach-athlete relationship.
The measure includes 24 items and typically takes about 5 minutes to complete. Item content reflects common relational domains (e.g., perceived trust, support, motivation, and day-to-day collaboration), yielding data that can inform clinical or applied sport psychology case formulation and consultation.
The Coach-Athlete Scale may be used to identify areas of relative strength and strain in coach-athlete interactions and to guide targeted intervention planning (e.g., communication strategies or leadership approach). It is commonly cited in the sport psychology literature (e.g., Albert V. Carron; Sophia Jowett).
