This self-report measure assesses positive body image and the degree to which individuals accept, respect, and value their body. The Body Appreciation Scale (BAS) is commonly used in clinical and research settings to support case formulation and to guide discussion of body-related attitudes.
Developed by L. D. Smolak and T. F. Cash, it consists of 13 items and typically takes about 3 minutes to complete. Scores from the Body Appreciation Scale (BAS) may be used alongside other assessment data to monitor change over time and to inform treatment planning when body image concerns are clinically relevant.
