This measure is designed to support a brief, structured appraisal of individual creative activity as expressed through attitudes and self-reported tendencies. The Creative Activity Assessment can be used as an initial screening tool to inform discussion of openness to novel approaches and flexible thinking in educational or organizational contexts. It was developed by E. Paul Torrance and J. P. Guilford.
The instrument consists of 43 items and typically requires about 8 minutes to complete. Items sample perceived initiative, idea generation, and willingness to consider unconventional solutions, with results intended to be interpreted in conjunction with other relevant information (e.g., role demands, performance observations, and collateral data). The Creative Activity Assessment is not a stand-alone diagnostic procedure and should be applied with attention to context, response style, and appropriate interpretive limits.
