This brief self-report measure is designed to assess physical appearance–related perfectionism. The Three-Factor Physical Perfectionism Scale, developed by Paul L. Hewitt and Gordon L. Flett, is intended to support rapid screening of attitudes and standards related to one’s body and appearance.
The instrument contains 10 items and typically takes about 2 minutes to complete. Content is commonly organized around three domains reflecting concern about appearance, elevated body-related standards, and striving for an ideal physique. Results from the Three-Factor Physical Perfectionism Scale may be used as an adjunct in clinical formulation and treatment planning when appearance-related distress, self-evaluative concerns, or stress associated with body ideals is clinically relevant.
