This brief self-report measure assesses the extent to which an individual prioritizes humanity’s continued survival as a personal value. Human Survival Value is administered as a short set of statements rated by the respondent, and is intended to support rapid appraisal in clinical, counseling, and research contexts.
The instrument includes 5 items and typically requires about 1 minutes to complete. It can be used to characterize value-based motivation relevant to perceptions of large-scale, collective threats and future-oriented concerns, with results interpreted in conjunction with other clinical and contextual information. Human Survival Value is attributed to Paul T. P. Wong.
