This brief self-report measure is used to characterize motivation and goal orientation related to improving speech. The Speech Aspiration Rating Scale can support initial case formulation by clarifying the individual’s readiness to engage in speech-focused intervention.
It consists of 24 items and typically requires about 5 minutes to complete. Item responses may be used to guide treatment planning, tailor clinician–client communication, and monitor change in perceived aspirations across repeated administrations. The Speech Aspiration Rating Scale is attributed to John L. Locke.
