Expert Assessment of a Child's Adaptation to School Test - the question form

1. Academic engagement.
No academic engagement (the child does not participate in the learning process).
Passive in class; gives negative responses or does not respond at all; often copies ready-made material from the board.
Academic engagement in class is short-lived; often distracted and does not hear the question.
Rarely raises a hand but answers correctly.
Works in class; correct and incorrect answers alternate.
Actively participates in class; often raises a hand and answers correctly.
2. Knowledge acquisition (academic performance).
Poor mastery of the curriculum across all subjects; major errors and many of them (low achievement in all subjects; average grade below 3.3).
Frequent errors; careless work; many corrections and cross-outs (inconsistent grades; average grade 3.5 or below).
Poor mastery of the material in one core subject; numerous errors (average grade in that subject 3.5 or below).
Occasional errors involving omitted letters or letter substitutions (average grade 3.9–3.6).
Minor blemishes; isolated errors (average grade 4.5–4.0).
Correct, error-free completion of school assignments (average grade 5.0–4.6).
3. Classroom behavior.
Does not follow the teacher’s instructions; spends most of the lesson on unrelated activities.
Partially follows the teacher’s instructions; is distracted by other activities, fidgets, or talks continuously.
Stiff or constrained posture and movements are often observed; responses appear tense.
Occasionally turns around and exchanges brief remarks with classmates.
Follows the teacher’s instructions, but sometimes becomes briefly distracted from the lesson.
Sits calmly and conscientiously follows all of the teacher’s instructions.
4. Behavior during recess.
Often breaks rules of behavior: interferes with others’ play, attacks them, shouts, runs around, and does not change behavior when corrected (lacks self-control).
Passive; movements are stiff; avoids other children.
Cannot find an activity; moves from one group of children to another.
Activity is limited to tasks related to preparing for the next lesson (gets textbooks and notebooks ready, cleans the board, tidies the classroom).
Low level of activity; prefers classroom activities with one of the other children, reading books, or quiet games.
Highly active in play; readily joins active group games.
5. Relationships with classmates.
Shows negativism toward other children; frequently argues with and hurts them (other children do not like him/her).
Withdrawn and socially isolated; prefers to be alone (other children are indifferent to him/her).
Prefers to stay near other children but does not interact with them.
Social circle is limited; interacts only with certain classmates.
Shows little initiative but readily engages when other children approach him/her.
Sociable; readily makes contact with other children.
6. Attitude toward the teacher.
Interactions with the teacher lead to negative emotions; is easily upset and may cry at even minor remarks.
Avoids contact with the teacher; is easily embarrassed or becomes flustered when speaking with them, speaks quietly, and may stumble over words.
Follows the teacher’s requirements formally; is not interested in interacting with the teacher and tries to be inconspicuous.
Diligently follows the teacher’s requirements but more often seeks help from classmates.
Values the teacher’s positive opinion; tries to meet all of the teacher’s requirements and, when needed, independently asks the teacher for help.
Shows friendliness toward the teacher and tries to gain the teacher’s approval; often approaches the teacher after class to talk.
7. Emotions.
Predominantly depressed mood. Aggression (outbursts of anger) in interactions with other children (may hit, break things, start a fight) and with the teacher.
Occasional depressive features, crying for no apparent reason. Aggressive reactions: often argues with other children, raises their voice.
Negative emotions: anxiety, sadness, sometimes fear; touchiness, short temper, irritability.
Occasional episodes of low mood.
Calm emotional state.
Good mood; often smiles and laughs.
