In educational and school-based consultation, brief self-report measures can help characterize instructional communication practices. The Teacher Communication Effectiveness Scale is designed to assess perceived effectiveness of a teacher’s communication in the classroom.
Developed by Robert J. Marzano, it consists of 20 items and typically takes about 4 minutes to complete. Responses are intended to support a structured review of communication behaviors as they relate to classroom interaction and instructional climate.
Results from the Teacher Communication Effectiveness Scale may be used to inform reflective practice, coaching discussions, and targeted professional development, with attention to strengths and areas for improvement in teacher–student communication.
