This measure is used to quantify the severity of posttraumatic stress symptoms associated with combat exposure. The Mississippi Scale for Combat-Related PTSD (M-PTSD) is typically administered when PTSD is already suspected or identified and a structured symptom severity estimate is needed.
It is a 35 items self-report questionnaire completed in about 7 minutes. Items assess a range of trauma-related complaints commonly observed in combat-related presentations and can support clinical formulation, treatment planning, and longitudinal symptom monitoring.
The Mississippi Scale for Combat-Related PTSD (M-PTSD) is not intended to serve as a stand-alone diagnostic instrument and should be interpreted in the context of a comprehensive clinical interview and other relevant assessment data. It was developed by James A. Caddell and John A. Fairbank.
